Sponsor a Child

How it works: Sponsoring a child at RHYCO costs just £25/month which will help your child to attend school and will also support the centre which provides food, school uniforms and required equipment, clean water as well as physical and emotional support.

Child sponsorship money goes to the centre not to your child directly. We informally audit expenditure and expect to visit both RHYCO and JHC at least twice a year (and usually more often). At those times we will be happy to take out small personal gifts or letters (carried by us). Please do not wrap these. From time to time the children will send something back, via us. These children are in their first or second year of school, so cannot write extended letters so it is more likely to be a decorated picture frame or something similar until they get further into school! We will feed back progress informally, preferably electronically to save postage costs. We find that Whatsapp messages work well too.

After our visits you may receive an email newsletter to let you know how things are going out there. At Christmas we may contact you to ask if you’d like to send an additional donation. The centre likes to put on a Christmas party and to send the children home with a basic food parcel to help them through the few days when the centre is closed. This is, of course, totally optional.

Because of their significant disabilities, children at the Joyful Hearts Centre do not go to school but spend their days being cared for at their centre. Any sponsor money for those children (also £25/month) goes to the running of that centre, or for individual needs like nappies, clothing, specialist equipment like chairs.

Make a Regular Contribution or One-Off Donation

As you can imagine, having consistent regular funds makes a world of difference. So if you would rather make a regular donation for the Marafiki Trust to use as needed, we would be most grateful. Even a regular £5 or £10 a month would be wonderful. Money goes so much further there. Any donation is appreciated as maintaining the centres, keeping the children in school and empowering families takes time, dedication and funds.

Volunteer

There is nothing quite a like a visit to inspire you to want to become more involved. Believe us we know! We have introduced family and friends to our friends in Kenya. You can visit for a day, help out for a few days or spend a few weeks volunteering at either of the projects. We can help you to arrange accommodation nearby…
